Over four interactive days you will gain basic skills and an understanding of horticulture activities that may offer you a step into employment.

During your classes you will enjoy a mix of listening, looking, doing and speaking with classroom activities, tutorials, practical observation and field trips. 

Handbooks will be provided so students can draw, make notes and keep handy info together. Tools will be on-hand along with general machinery to increase skills and confidence. 

You will learn about a range of growing systems such as orchards, nurseries and market gardens and plant production from seed as well as soil preparation and management. 

Personal presentation, hygiene, work ethic and physical preparedness for the horticulture industry will also be covered so you can put your best foot forward. 

On successful completion of this course students will be able to: 

  • Describe the key tasks involved in horticulture activities 
  • Use horticultural equipment in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturer’s instructions 
  • Show awareness of the growing environment with reference to workplace requirements 

Students will be expected to complete 10 hours of practising skills in their own time.
