Let the language flow | Tukuna te reo kia rere

This te reo programme is designed to help you develop your speaking skills in everyday situations. Our friendly and supportive kaiako will guide you through the process, helping you to build confidence in your intermediate-level te reo.

By the end of this programme, you will be able to listen and speak te reo Māori for the majority of the time, giving you the confidence to communicate effectively in a variety of settings.

You will also learn:

  • Reo ōkawa (formal language)
  • Tīkanga-ā-iwi
  • Mōteatea (traditional chant)
  • Aituā Karakia (prayer)
  • Waiata (songs)
  • Whakataukī (proverbs)
  • Kīwaha (sayings)

At the end of each course, you will have an overnight noho, which will offer further opportunities to be immersed in te ao Māori and expand your understanding of te reo me ōna tikanga.

If you have not studied te reo Māori with us before, you will need to come in for an interview so we can make sure you are studying at the right level for you.

To find out more about the different levels of te reo Māori study available and where you should begin your studies, come in for a kōrero (chat) in Te Toki Pakohe (D Block) or email us: maoristudies@nmit.ac.nz
