Celebrating the wonder of the new light festival
NMIT Arts and Media students have embraced the Te Ramaroa festival (formerly known as Light Nelson) with contributions to an installation called Trail of Light, as well as various works on display in the atrium of G-Block.
Trail of Light is an augmented reality installation created by NMIT tutor Klaasz Breukel, one 35 installations placed around central Nelson, Piki Mai (cathedral hill), various laneways and Queen’s Gardens from 9-13 July.
Klaasz’ installation starts near the entrance of Piki Mai and requires visitors to download the free app Artivive(external link) on their phone (from Google Play(external link) or Apple store(external link)) which is then used to point at markers dotted around the CBD. Each marker triggers an animation, most of which were created by students of the Arts and Media department under the guidance of tutor Jess Shirley.
Being part of the festival is a great addition to the student’s curriculum work and an exciting opportunity to showcase their talent to the community. Object design students who worked on large objects for Te Ramaroa(external link) as part of their curriculum were supported by arts and design tutor Stefan Hanspach and technician Simon Hunter.
The works will be on display in the atrium of G-Block, 5.30 - 9.30pm during the festival.
