Are you planning to study a Level 5 programme? If so, bring up the programme page for your chosen study path on a new window. If you’re planning to study at Level 2, 3 or 4 this won’t affect you, but by all means join in if further study is on your horizon. Are you on the page?
Scroll to the bit that reads: Key Information for Students. Once there, bypass ‘entry requirements’. Also bypass ‘duration’ - this isn’t mind blowing stuff; we’re not here to bore you.
Let’s look at tuition fees to start. Fees are now split into two categories to demonstrate the $ value you receive when you study.
Tuition fees, entry requirements and study duration are qualification details you must know. But the information on the right - that will change the way you make your decision. This is big data giving you a magnifying glass and a big ole kiss!
*All percentages are based on graduates who completed their study three years prior.
For the Bachelor of Commerce Level 7 programme, 81% successfully completed all courses. Three years after completing this programme, 78% of graduates across New Zealand are in employment in this industry, 15% are in further study, and only 1% are on the benefit. You can expect to earn between $39,591 - $59,086 with an average income of $49,052.
If you were considering going down this particular career route and read these national statistics, you’d feel pretty optimistic about the future ahead, right?
With the hard facts at your disposal, you can weigh up your priorities. In many situations we make decisions intuitively; we go on gut feeling. We are emotional animals, after all. There is still room for intuition, but rather than it being a left or right brain decision, with KIS your left and right brain have a more balanced conversation. Together, left and right become aware of the true reality of what lies ahead for you. You can then go back to your intuition and ask:
'Now that you have all the facts, do you still like what you see?'
There’s quite a lot of consolidation of qualifications going on nationally. This change is known as the Tertiary Review of Qualifications (TRoQ). We wrote a blog about TRoQ - learn more here. KIS is a natural next step; a push towards a simplified, more transparent education model.
The KIS project is an initiative by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). TEC asked all tertiary institutions nationwide to provide them with current qualification data obtained via the national qualification code.
Many graduates pre-KIS would have given their right hand to have had this information when they embarked on their study journey. Some might have chosen a different path altogether and eliminated 20k in debt. Sure...this could just be another step in big data’s plans for an eventual take-over, where computers know you better than you know yourself, but in this case KIS data is seriously empowering.
